Belts and hoses are located under the hood of your Subaru model. Hoses withstand coolant under intense temperatures and pressure. Aside from coolant hoses, there are radiator, overflow, and heater hoses. Belts are just as important. They help control the alternator, water pump, and the power steering pump. Your drive belt, or the serpentine belt, connects parts to the crankshaft. Another belt, called the timing belt, allows the crankshaft turn the camshaft.
When Should I Replace Subaru Belts and Hoses?
Usually, it's recommended to replace hoses about every 50,000 miles. Remember to inspect them for cracks regularly. As for your serpentine belt, you'll want to replace it every 50,000 miles or so. The timing belt doesn't need to be replaced until the 100,000 mile-mark. Be sure to check your owner's manual for more information.
